Year-Long Sweepstakes Launches August 1, Educates on Ways to

Save Money and Help Improve Air Quality

You probably know that carpooling and taking public transit reduces air pollution. Did you know that if you RideShare, walk or bike instead of driving, you could save up to $1,400 a year? Did you know that replacing your five most frequently used light fixtures with ENERGY STAR® qualified lighting could save you $70 in electric costs?*

These are the kinds of savings that Illinois Partners for Clean Air (Illinois PFCA) want you to know about. The nonprofit coalition of government agencies, businesses and health advocacy groups is reaching out to residents of the Chicago region through the Breathe Easy Save Easy Sweepstakes being launched August 1, 2012. The sweepstakes will challenge participants to select easy to do actions that have both the effect of reducing air pollution and generating cost savings.

Participants can access the Breathe Easy Save Easy Sweepstakes website at www.BreatheEasySaveEasy.com and the Illinois PFCA website at www.CleanTheAir.org to find a list of suggested actions they can take in their daily lives to reduce air pollution and save money.

“Even the smallest of changes in lifestyle can make an important contribution to reducing air pollution and generating savings for you and your family,” noted Kim Biggs, Chairperson of Illinois  PFCA.

Individuals enter the sweepstakes by selecting one or more specific actions they can do and filling out the entry form. Entry forms will also be available at Illinois PFCA community outreach events throughout the year. By submitting the form, participants are entered in the month’s drawing, with a chance to win an environmentally conscious prize package valued at a minimum of $200.

Examples of prizes include:

  • August:  2 White Sox Box Seats for September 24th game with RTA FareCheck good for CTA, Metra or Pace passes [$80 value] and an Energy Saver Kit for the Home.
  • September:  4 premium tickets to the Chicago Wolves Hockey opening game, Wolves hats/swag, and an RTA FareCheck. Package also includes winner acknowledgement via posting on in-stadium matrix board.
  • October:  Family Premier Membership for two years to Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, which includes four museum guest passes and four behind-the-scenes tours at the Museum. Other package values include one-time discount at various local green businesses.
  • Other prize packages to be featured include a Citizen eco-friendly caliber watch from Abt Electronics and a solar Sun Oven from Sun Oven International.

Only one entry per person per month is permitted, and participants – who must be at least 18 years of age – can win just once in a 12-month period. Those who choose to receive Air Pollution Action Day notifications through a new, free Illinois EnviroFlash subscription will receive a second entry in their name during the given month. Sweepstakes rules are available on the sweepstakes website www.BreatheEasySaveEasy.com.

The sweepstakes is open to residents of Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry, Will, Kendall and Grundy counties in Illinois. The Breathe Easy Save Easy Sweepstakes will kick off at two popular, local minor league sporting events in August: the Schaumburg Boomers on Friday, August 3 at 6:30 p.m. and the Kane County Cougars on Saturday, August 4 at 6:30 p.m.
