FAQ
What happens when my company signs the pledge?
By signing on as a Partner, you are demonstrating your organization’s intent to make a committed effort to improve air quality. There are many ways your organization can accomplish this. The Action Plan outlines practices your organization can implement on a year-round basis, and the additional steps you can take on Air Pollution Action Days.
What are Air Pollution Action Days, and how will my organization be notified?
Each day, air quality data is collected from a network of air monitoring stations located throughout the region. An Air Pollution Action Day is declared when data from these monitors, along with weather conditions, indicate the potential for widespread ozone or fine particulate matter levels at or above the Orange - "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups" category on the Air Quality Index.
Your organization will select two or more assigned contacts, who will sign up online for the Illinois EnviroFlash program. Illinois EnviroFlash is an online tool that sends air quality forecasts and Air Pollution Action Day alerts directly to a subscriber's email inbox. The program is a partnership between the Illinois EPA and U.S. EPA. Your assigned contacts will receive an email the day before an Air Pollution Action Day. This is typically distributed between noon and 3 p.m. Your contacts can then circulate the message internally to implement Action Plans aimed at limiting harmful emissions. Illinois Partners for Clean Air will also alert local media on Air Pollution Action Days in order to increase public participation.
Who can I call for more information or assistance?
Illinois Partners for Clean Air representatives at the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency can provide more information and assistance relating to the coalition. Those representatives can be reached by phone at 217.524.2378 or via email at pfca@cleantheair.org.
